Chart of the day
This comes from the NY Times' Economix blog. When things look scary investors buy treasuries. When demand for treasuries increases, the yield (which is the equivalent of the price) drops.
As low as yields are now, they were even lower fairly recently. Note the collapse in September, when Lehman Brothers failed.
