Rural Broadband Overrated

For many years various parties in the US have been wringing their fingers worried about the fact that the US seriously lags some other countries in broadband penetration. I have always thought the worry was over-rated since the US still has by far the largest market of broadband households and is pretty good about innovating on the Web in general.

The stimulus plan has money to subsidize rural broadband on the grounds that it will create jobs. Now comes word that perhaps this view is mistaken.
