The First Depression

I just read a reference to the 1930's as "the First Depression." A one-off, or is this what it will be? There was a time when World War I was known as "The Great War," after all.

After Googling the term, however, I see Gawker had a reference as early as last October.

Ron Paul's website has a post from January 26th with a reference that goes all the way back to November 2006 (albeit just a list of quotes from talking heads in 1928-9 predicting permanent prosperity). The list has a cool chart lifted from a 2005 posting that itself appears to have first been created in 2001!

On further exploration, the conversation on the topic on Twitter has been noted for a few weeks, and someone is even re-"printing" his great aunt's recently discovered line-a-day diary from The First Depression.

Welcome to the blogosphere.
