Pay-TV Deflation: New Yorkers Ditching Time Warner Cable for Internet Video

With a high-speed internet connection, a hard-drive, a dollop of web savvy, and a shitload of patience you can theoretically download or stream just about anything you pay to watch on cable TV. Often you can watch it without ads (or with relatively few ads). So why pay your cable company $60/month for stuff you can get "for free?"

This article says there are New Yorkers who are choosing web-based viewing over pay-TV. I think long-term this will be an issue for cable companies, but for most of us $60 is a relative bargain compared to the inconvenience involved in the free stuff. But not forever.
